Dogs are loyal pets and also keep the home safe , so many people are keeping dogs as pets. A majority of people are keeping pets for entertainment and companionship especially if they are lonely and have no other company .

However the additional advantage of keeping dogs as pets is that they will deter robbers, burglars and other intruders from entering the house, without the permission of the home owner . Most dogs will bark when they detect an intruder into the house, and in some cases the dog will also bite the intruder who may be human or some other animal like a snake.

In large cities, most middle class people live in apartment complexes , and can afford to hire one or more security guards to monitor those entering and leaving the area. However in small towns many people live in row houses and small buildings which cannot afford to hire a watchman, due to lower income. So in these cases, keeping a dog for security can be a far more cost effective option for home owners to ensure that no intruders enter the house at night or when people in the house are away.
