For those who do not want their pet to roam around the house and require a low maintenance pet, fish are the easiest to keep pets at home. However many fish are to be kept in an aquarium with lighting and an electrical pump which can be expensive. If there is no proper waterproofing during the monsoon, the electricity supply in the house will be disrupted due to short circuit, caused by water leakage. So it is advisable to find low maintenance fish which can be kept in a fish bowl, and the water is changed periodically. However there appear to be very few suppliers of fish bowls in India at an affordable rate, despite spending a lot of time searching for a fish bowl online and offline also.
There are some animals which can be kept as pets and also as domestic animals which can be sold, used for meat like hen, ducks, pigs, rabbits. However both in small towns and large cities it is not easy to find a person who is selling hens, pigs and rabbits to home owners as pets. A few decades ago, in panaji, and surrounding areas, a number of people were keeping hen, pigs and rabbits, now the number of people keeping domestic animals has reduced to a great extent. In panaji, in May June before monsoon, some duck sellers are using selling ducks at Campal parade ground for Rs 400- 500. In small towns keeping a pet is a good hobby for children to keep them busy, and for middle aged and older people who have limited job opportunities in a small town.
