A Loveless Love Story to Tell
You might be surprised, but not all love stories end up with “happily ever after”, but then it can be a source of inspiration for others. My parents have a unique love story to tell. Allow me to share with you my parents’ loveless love story.
They have been married for forty-one years, and been living together for forty-four years. My mom was only then 16 years old when she met my father, and he was the only man she ever dated. The photos I have seen my dad as a teenager resemble John Mellencamp Cougar. My dad used to drive an orange Trans Am with a black eagle painted hood, and he had a long and feathered brown hair who loved wearing tight bell-bottom jeans and white shirt. He was considered a “cool” kid and my mom was a complete opposite.
My mom was innocent, young, and wore uniform every day as she attended Catholic School, with her hair curled by her mother using Coca-Cola cans. She found a great escape being and dating my dad as her parents were always strict and conservative. She discovered she can be hot and gorgeous! I saw her photo at a carnival wearing a yellow halter-top belly blouse and a tight bell-bottom jeans. Because there are no hair straighteners in the past, she used to iron her hair on her own.
My parents grew up in the famous and less dangerous place, Brooklyn. Kids loved to ride bikes going to school, and used uncuttable bike locks to secure them while classes are going on. My mother was allowed to hang out at the park until dusk, and my father used to party all night long.
My mom accepted my dad’s wedding proposal at the age of 19 because she wanted to get out of her parents’ house. My mom craved for freedom because my grandmother was extremely hard on my mom.
My mother got pregnant at the age of 24, and my parents moved in Queens, where my father made really good money working in a telephone company. She always have dreamed to be a mom, and when she got pregnant with their second child, they moved to New Jersey. My mother spent her twenty years of life taking of us, and she was a good mom.
However, as time passes by, the love, appreciation, and connection have vanished. They have been with us and decided to remain married but have not really create meaningful and romantic memories together. I hope my mother had a second chance, she is a good mom but was not able to pursue a career because she entered married life just to escape prison, not realizing the life sentence it provides.
